Owner-Dependence
Every decision, every exception, every fire routes back to you. The business can’t run a week without the founder in the middle of it — so growth just means more of you, spread thinner.
I’m Anthony Carlin — a fractional COO for founder-led hospitality, restaurant, and franchise businesses. I build the organization capable of supporting your growth, so the founder stops being the system.
The systems that worked at one location quietly stop scaling at three, five, ten. Standards live in people’s heads instead of in the operation — and the founder becomes the bottleneck every decision runs through.
Every decision, every exception, every fire routes back to you. The business can’t run a week without the founder in the middle of it — so growth just means more of you, spread thinner.
Location one runs your way. Location four runs on whoever’s shift it is. When standards live in people’s heads, quality becomes a coin flip the guest can see.
New units open on hustle instead of a playbook. No operating cadence, no scorecards, no bench — so each opening costs more and performs worse than the last.
Two to three weeks inside your operation — not a survey, not a slide deck from the parking lot. I look at how the business actually runs, then rank what to fix first.
Four lenses on the operation, one ranked roadmap out.
The deliverable: a ranked 90-day roadmap — what to fix first, in what order, and what it’s costing you not to.
Every engagement starts the same way: find out what’s actually true inside the operation. Then we fix it together, at the depth you need.
The full look inside: execution, leadership bench, the numbers, and the founder bottleneck — delivered as a ranked 90-day roadmap.
We work the roadmap together: SOPs, operating cadence, scorecards, and a leadership rhythm that holds after I step back.
Senior operations leadership inside your business — running the system, developing your leaders, and keeping growth ahead of chaos.
Engagements draw on what the business actually needs — one service or the whole system.
Embedded executive operations leadership, part-time — the senior operator your org chart is missing.
A clear-eyed review of how the operation runs today, and a practical path to running it better.
The infrastructure, standards, and support systems that let unit two through twenty perform like unit one.
Building managers into leaders — with the rhythms and expectations that make accountability stick.
Reading the numbers underneath the operation and fixing the leaks they point to.
Getting the playbook out of people’s heads and into systems the whole team can run.
Hospitality as an operating philosophy, trained into every role — not a department, a standard.
Site selection through opening day — new locations launched on a system, not on hope.
Plans built to be executed: Discover → Develop → Implement → Sustain, with owners on every step.
If revenue is growing but the operation feels held together by you personally, this was built for your stage.
The common thread: the business has outgrown the way it’s run.
Especially owner-dependent businesses — where the founder is still the system, and everyone knows it.
Anthony Carlin has spent his career inside the operations he now advises — running the outlets, opening the locations, and leading the teams.
Directed operations across 16 high-volume outlets — $40M+ annual volume, teams of 100+. Before founding Anchor & Main, he ran franchise operations for a multiple-location experiential franchise brand across 12 states, helping open 8 locations and building the support systems franchisees ran on.
Today he serves as COO, leading the US expansion of the Finnish indoor activity-park brand. He also serves as a Business Advisor with 7 Stage Advisors. Through Anchor & Main, founded in 2022 and based in Jackson, New Jersey, he brings that operator’s seat to founder-led businesses as a fractional COO.
His philosophy is “Hospitality Everywhere” — hospitality is an operating philosophy, not a department. It shows up in how a business hires, trains, schedules, and serves, or it doesn’t show up at all.
“Sustainable growth comes from building an organization capable of supporting that growth.”
A fit call is a working conversation about your operation — where it strains, what it’s costing you, and whether the Diagnostic is the right first step.
